Nashville, TN — A 27-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the death of a state worker following a crash on Interstate 65 last summer.
According to police, Brittany Bishop faces charges of failure to yield resulting in the death of Raymon Cruz-Sanchez. The incident occurred on Aug. 16, 2024, as Cruz-Sanchez was picking up trash along the interstate.
Bishop reported a mechanical issue with her 2013 Hyundai Azera, which caused her to swerve into the left lane while driving north on I-65 near Harding Place. Data retrieved from the vehicle indicated Bishop overcorrected to the right, striking Cruz-Sanchez on the right shoulder of the interstate. The impact pinned Cruz-Sanchez between her vehicle and a trailer equipped for trash collection.
Authorities confirmed that at the time of the incident, Cruz-Sanchez was wearing a reflective safety vest and working near a trailer displaying flashing lights and an arrow indicator. Emergency response services were dispatched to the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
