MARION, Ind. (WISH) — A woman died, and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Grant County on Saturday night.
At 8:46 p.m., Grant County 911 received reports of a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles at State Road 9 and Meridian Street, near the 2200 block of North Huntington Street.
Authorities confirmed four vehicles were involved: a 2012 Chrysler van, a 2014 Chevrolet, a 2006 Buick, and a 2010 Ford SUV. Several individuals sustained injuries and were transported to Marion Health, while a 57-year-old woman from Marion was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital, where she later died. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the preliminary investigation indicates three vehicles were traveling southbound on State Road 9. One vehicle slowed for a left-hand turn onto Meridian Street and was rear-ended. This caused it to spin into the opposing lane, where it collided with a northbound vehicle, resulting in further impacts with another southbound vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from Indiana State Police. Further details, including lane closures or tows, have not yet been released.
