Two dead in wrong-way crash on Interstate 90

MISSOULA, Mont. — Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 90 near Missoula on Saturday night.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the crash involved a 23-year-old man from Florence driving a Hyundai eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate. The Hyundai collided head-on with a Mazda driven by a 26-year-old woman from Arlee, who was traveling westbound correctly.

Following the impact, the Mazda rotated counterclockwise and came to rest on the north shoulder, where it caught fire and became fully engulfed. Meanwhile, the Hyundai overturned in the median, partially ejecting the driver.

Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews diverted westbound traffic for several hours while responding to the incident.

Authorities suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor, and the Montana Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
