Gasconade County Accident Claims Second Life; Driver Faces Charges
OWENSVILLE, MO — A second person has died following a single-vehicle accident in Gasconade County on Monday night. The crash occurred on South Fourth Street at 9:15 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The patrol’s report indicates that a Jeep veered off the road, striking three mailboxes, a utility pole, and an embankment before becoming airborne and landing. The vehicle subsequently flipped over, ejecting all four occupants.
Initially, a 17-year-old boy was confirmed dead at the scene. Authorities have now reported that a 22-year-old man from Belle, MO, succumbed to his injuries at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Additionally, a 37-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from Bland, MO, suffered serious injuries.
In response to the incident, Gasconade County prosecutors charged the driver, Tyler C. Schmidt, with DWI – Death of 2 or More and DWI – Serious Physical Injury. Schmidt was transported to a hospital in Washington, MO, for serious injuries and will be held without bond once discharged.
