Fatal Crash Under Investigation in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Ore. — A fatal car crash is currently under investigation by the Oregon State Police (OSP) following an incident on Highway 140.

On Tuesday, July 1, OSP responded to the scene near milepost 1. Investigators reported that a white Mercedes Sprinter , operated by 48-year-old Daniel Klinkert from Oklahoma, entered the intersection with a southbound commercial truck towing double trailers. The truck, driven by 61-year-old Nicholas Cardoza of Lakeview, attempted to swerve to avoid the and subsequently rolled off the roadway.

Authorities confirmed that Cardoza was pronounced dead at the scene. Klinkert reportedly sustained no injuries.

The response involved the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lakeview EMS, Lakeview Fire Department, and Thomas-Creek Westside Fire Department.
