Millsboro Man Convicted in Fatal Christmas Eve Crash
A 49-year-old Millsboro man was convicted on Nov. 4 in Delaware Superior Court for his role in a fatal crash on Christmas Eve 2022 near Lewes. Jason Wilcox was found guilty on all ten charges, including three counts of manslaughter and three counts of first-degree assault.
Prosecutors argued that Wilcox was speeding—driving nearly 80 mph in a 50 mph zone—when he collided with a 2008 Honda Odyssey attempting to turn onto Route 9 from Minos Conaway Road. Following the crash, Wilcox left the scene without rendering aid.
The crash ejected two passengers, Gerald Huss, 74, and Jovie Wright, 9, who died from their injuries, while Jessica Guida, 35, also succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. Other occupants of the Odyssey were treated for serious injuries.
Wilcox's defense contended that the Odyssey's driver, Jason Wright, pulled out in front of him without warning. However, the jury deliberated for about two and a half hours before reaching a verdict.
Following the trial, Deputy Attorney General Barzilai Axelrod emphasized Wilcox's choices, stating he failed to mitigate his speed or help the victims after the collision. Wilcox, who previously pleaded guilty to unrelated charges in October 2023, faces a minimum two-yearsentence for each manslaughter and first-degree assault charge, with potential sentences up to 25 years for each count.
Judge Mark Conner scheduled sentencing for Jan. 17.
