UPDATE: Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. A multi-vehicle crash on I-64 in Woodford County claimed the lives of three individuals on Friday.
The Woodford County Coroner identified the deceased as 50-year-old Casey Whitlock from Paris, 43-year-old Matthew Jackson from Cincinnati, Ohio, and 39-year-old John McBroom from Crittenden.
The Kentucky State Police reported that three additional people sustained injuries in the incident, which involved four tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. Two tractor-trailer drivers and one passenger vehicle occupant were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants from passenger vehicles and a third tractor-trailer driver were transported to local hospitals.
UPDATE: Sept. 13 at 7:15 a.m. All lanes on I-64W are now open following the closure caused by the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
UPDATE: Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. LEX 18 confirmed the presence of the coroner on the scene. The collision involved multiple semi-trucks, and I-64 westbound was closed as emergency crews responded.
UPDATE: Sept. 12 at 8:10 p.m. Eastbound traffic began moving slowly, according to Ready Frankfort.
A section of I-64 in Woodford County is closed near the interstate rest stops due to the collision. Authorities advise drivers to use US 421 and US 60 as detours.
