St. Lucie County, Fla. — Legal representation for Harjinder Singh is scheduled to address the media Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Singh, 28, is in custody following three counts of vehicular homicide tied to a fatal crash on the Turnpike.
Authorities reported that Singh made a U-turn in an emergency vehicle access lane, resulting in a collision with his semi truck. He was extradited from California to Florida on Thursday and has been detained by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Recent petitions requesting leniency for Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, have gained traction online, with at least one amassing over 2 million signatures. Florida Lt. Gov. Jay Collins publicly defended his decision to return Singh to Florida, emphasizing the significance of the incident that resulted in three fatalities.
This press conference follows the circulation of these petitions appealing to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for clemency during the adjudication process.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
