MILLSBORO, DE – A Millsboro man faces serious charges following a Christmas Eve 2022 collision that killed three people. Delaware prosecutors rested their case against Jason Wilcox, 48, on Oct. 31, 2023, with the jury set to begin deliberations on Nov. 1.
Wilcox is charged with three counts of manslaughter and four counts of first-degree assault, among other offenses, after a crash involving a 2016 Range Rover and a 2008 Honda Odyssey at the intersection of Route 9 and Minos Conaway Road. Wilcox, who pleaded not guilty, declined to testify during the trial. His defense claims the accident occurred due to the Odyssey driver, Jason Wright, pulling into the intersection.
Investigating officer Cpl. Kenneth Argo of the Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit testified about the collision’s severity. He reported extensive damage to both vehicles, with the Range Rover found about 200 feet from the scene, missing its driver. Wilcox was later arrested at his home, where police discovered the key to the Range Rover.
Argo’s investigation found no evidence of mechanical failure in either vehicle and determined that speed was a primary factor in the crash. Evidence presented included DNA from the airbag and surveillance footage showing Wilcox before and after the incident.
Victims Gerald Huss, 74, and 9-year-old Jovie Wright were ejected from the Odyssey and died at the scene. Jessica Guida, 35, later succumbed to injuries. Wright testified that he did not see any oncoming traffic before the collision.
Closing arguments are scheduled for Nov. 1, followed by jury instructions.
