PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A crash on the Florida Turnpike on August 12 has resulted in the deaths of three South Florida residents, prompting significant legal and political repercussions.
Authorities reported that Harjinder Singh, an undocumented truck driver, made an illegal U-turn across the median, blocking all lanes of traffic, which led to the collision. Singh fled to California the day after the accident, raising concerns about his quick departure from Florida. He now faces multiple criminal charges, has been denied bond, and is labeled a flight risk.
Florida Lt. Governor Jay Collins has confirmed he will escort Singh back to Florida to face justice. “Three lives ended early,” Collins stated. “You did something wrong, you have to be held accountable.”
Federal records indicate that Singh obtained commercial driver’s licenses in Washington and California despite his undocumented status. Collins criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom’s immigration policies, suggesting they contribute to dangerous situations.
In response to the incident, a petition for leniency on Singh’s behalf has garnered millions of signatures, inciting debate. However, Collins remains resolute, emphasizing that Singh must face the consequences.
Collins extended condolences to the families of the victims and vowed to advocate for stronger immigration enforcement across Florida.
