Judge Denies Bond for Illegal Immigrant Trucker in Fatal Crash
A St. Lucie County judge denied bond for Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant trucker from India, accused of causing a crash that killed three people on Florida’s Turnpike on August 12.
Judge Lauren Sweet ruled on Saturday that Singh, 28, poses a significant flight risk, as reported by FOX News. Sweet found probable cause for six charges against Singh, classifying them as forcible felonies under state law. “There are no conditions of release that will ensure your appearance at trial,” she stated, setting each charge at no bond.
Singh is currently in custody of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office after being extradited from California on Thursday. He faces three counts of vehicular homicide related to the crash. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Singh attempted an illegal U-turn at an “Official Use Only” access point, blocking all lanes of the highway and leading to the fatal incident.
Dave Kerner, executive director of the agency, condemned Singh’s actions, emphasizing the tragic loss of life caused by his recklessness. Following the conclusion of state charges, Singh will face deportation, with authorities committed to enforcing both state and federal laws.
The Department of Homeland Security noted that Singh obtained a Commercial Driver’s License in California without legal rights, raising concerns about public safety and governance.
