Three Dead in Fort Pierce Crash Involving Undocumented Driver

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Over 2.8 million people have signed a petition urging leniency for Harjinder Singh, the undocumented migrant truck driver charged in a crash that killed three people.

Singh, 28, was driving a 2024 International semi-tractor-trailer when he attempted an illegal U-turn near mile marker 171 on August 14, 2025, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. His trailer crossed all northbound lanes and struck a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, resulting in the deaths of all three occupants.

Initially charged with three counts of vehicular homicide, Singh faces three additional counts of manslaughter following a court appearance on Saturday. He was extradited from California after fleeing the state.

The Collective Punjabi Youth initiated a Change.org petition advocating for a reduced sentence, claiming the incident was not intentional. Supporters also referenced the case of Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, a Colorado truck driver sentenced to 110 years for a deadly accident, whose sentence was later commuted.

The petition claimed Singh has no prior offenses and should be granted parole after serving a “fair portion” of his sentence. As of Monday, the petition had 2,822,355 verified signatures.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' office responded, stating, “No deal. In Florida, criminal actions have consequences.”

As the investigation continues, the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office emphasized Singh's reckless actions led to the fatalities, declaring that he would face deportation after his state charges are resolved.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles confirmed Singh's illegal U-turn blocked traffic and resulted in the tragic accident.
