Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Reopens After 3-Car Crash and Fog
The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway's northbound and southbound lanes reopened with restrictions on Monday morning after a three-vehicle accident and dense fog caused a temporary closure.
According to Causeway officials, the southbound lane was closed after a 3-car crash occurred near the 11-mile marker around 9 a.m. There were no reported injuries. One vehicle required towing, while the other two were drivable. Shortly after, the northbound lane was also closed due to severe fog conditions.
Visibility improved on the north end of the bridge by 10 a.m., but fog remained thick on the south end, according to Causeway General Manager Carlton Dufrechou.
Drivers in both directions were restricted to the right lane, with a reduced speed limit of 35 miles per hour in effect. It remains unclear when these restrictions will be lifted.
