Suspect Driver Critically Injured in High-Speed Pursuit Crash

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A driver was critically injured after crashing a white Mercedes following a pursuit with Indiana State Police (ISP) on Sunday morning.

At approximately 6:20 a.m. on October 1, the Mercedes was traveling south on Meridian Road, just south of State Road 114, at a high speed when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle was suspected of fleeing from an attempted traffic stop initiated by an ISP trooper after a dispatch reported a white passenger car evading law enforcement in Columbia City, Indiana.

The trooper observed the vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit on State Road 9 near State Road 14 in Whitley County. After turning around to initiate a stop, the driver accelerated, prompting a pursuit that continued southbound on County Road 200 East, which becomes Meridian Road in Huntington County. During the pursuit, the Mercedes reportedly turned off its lights and eventually went out of the trooper’s view.

Following the crash, first responders found the vehicle had hit a utility pole, causing downed poles across the roadway. The suspect driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. No other vehicles were involved, and investigators confirmed there were no additional passengers in the Mercedes.

Authorities have not released any information regarding the identity of the suspect driver, and the incident remains under investigation.
