Airport Shuttle Crash Claims One Life, Injures Ten Near Denver International Airport
Commerce City, CO — A crash involving an airport shuttle bus and a pickup truck on July 12 resulted in one fatality and ten injuries near Denver International Airport.
According to Commerce City police, the shuttle driver is being recommended for charges of careless driving causing death, careless driving causing injury, and failure to yield. The case will be reviewed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. No charges have been filed as of now.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Tower Road and East 81st Avenue when the shuttle bus, traveling south on Tower Road, attempted a left turn on a flashing yellow arrow. Police stated the driver turned in front of the pickup truck, which had the right of way.
A 77-year-old man riding the shuttle was killed in the crash; ten other passengers sustained injuries. Both the shuttle driver and a passenger from the pickup were hospitalized with serious injuries.
The police department’s recommendation for criminal charges follows what they described as “an exhaustive investigation and crash reconstruction.”
Emergency responders attended to the injured, and further details regarding the incident will be released pending the ongoing investigation.
