Serious crash on I-69 leaves one driver hospitalized

BARGERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — All southbound lanes of Interstate 69, south of Smith Valley Road, are closed following a serious car crash early Monday.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a call at 5:15 a.m. about a disabled vehicle on the highway. While deputies and Bargersville police responded to the scene, another vehicle collided with the stranded car.

Images released by authorities depict the damaged vehicle as a crumpled wreck on the side of I-69, surrounded by debris. The driver of the disabled car was transported to a hospital in serious condition. The status of the other driver involved has not been disclosed, but authorities noted that individual was not transported by ambulance.

I-69 southbound between Smith Valley Road and State Road 144 will remain closed for the next couple of hours.

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes, using the access road off Smith Valley Road to reach S.R. 144 and re-enter the interstate.
