Plane Crash in Sumner County Claims One Life
A plane crash in Sumner County on July 2 resulted in one fatality; the incident occurred around 1 p.m. in a field near Collier Lane and Highway 25.
Authorities reported that an ERCO Ercoupe aircraft crashed in the Cottontown area while en route from Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport in Kentucky to Cleveland Regional Jetport in Tennessee. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that only the pilot was on board at the time of the incident.
Sumner County Sheriff Eric Craddock stated that the Sheriff’s Office, along with emergency personnel, responded quickly to secure the scene and assist with initial operations. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragic incident,” Craddock said in a text message.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash, with the NTSB taking the lead role. Emergency Medical Services Public Information Officer Jackson Boyd confirmed that multiple agencies responded to the scene.
Sheriff Craddock urged the public to avoid the area to allow first responders and investigators to carry out their work safely.
