Passenger dies in DUI crash; driver faces vehicular homicide charges.

Fatal Crash Leads to Vehicular Homicide Charge in New Castle

A fatal crash near New Castle resulted in an arrest for vehicular homicide on Nov. 15, according to Delaware State Police.

Around 1 a.m., a Lexus ES 350 collided with the rear of a tractor trailer on North Dupont Highway near Christiana Road, close to Wilmington Airport. The impact caused the Lexus to spin out and slide across a concrete median, striking a traffic sign.

The Lexus contained two occupants. A 36-year-old woman from New Castle was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor trailer driver was unharmed.

The driver of the Lexus, 36-year-old Ashley Wright of Dover, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital. After her release, she was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, and various traffic offenses. She was arraigned and later released after posting a $10,102 cash bond.

The roadway was closed for approximately six hours as police conducted their investigation. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact Delaware State Police or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
