One dead, five injured in US-131 crash near Wayland.

WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — One person is dead and five others were injured in a crash on US-131 early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 5:26 a.m. near the exit for 124th Avenue, involving two southbound vehicles, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency personnel arrived to find six individuals with varying injuries, including one who was initially unresponsive. First responders successfully reestablished a pulse, but the individual later died en route to the hospital.

The remaining five individuals are expected to survive their injuries. US-131 South was closed at the M-179 exit for approximately four hours as deputies collected evidence and cleared debris from the scene.

Authorities believe speed may have contributed to the crash but have not released identities of those involved due to the potential for criminal charges.

Further investigation is ongoing.
