Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-76 Causes Minor Injuries and Fuel Spill

Westbound I-76 Closed Due to Three-Car Crash Involving Semitrailer

Westbound Interstate 76 was closed north of Denver on Monday morning following a three-car crash that involved a semitrailer.

As of 8:30 a.m., the closure was in effect between Sheridan Boulevard and Interstate 70, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The crash, which occurred at 6:44 a.m., resulted in minor injuries to an unspecified number of individuals, as reported by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators from the Colorado State Patrol stated that the semitrailer jack-knifed, leading to the collision with two other vehicles. An undetermined amount of fuel leaked from the semitrailer’s side tank onto the highway.

No timeline for reopening the highway was available as of Monday morning. Witnesses to the incident who have not yet contacted law enforcement are encouraged to reach out to Colorado State Patrol dispatch at 303-239-4501.

Additionally, another section of westbound I-76 at Federal Boulevard was closed due to “safety concerns,” causing delays of up to 25 minutes for drivers, according to CDOT officials. No further information about this closure has been released.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
