Motorcyclist Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash in Madison Township

LANCASTER – A Columbus man died following a two-vehicle collision on State Route 674 on Aug. 9, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., Robert Nichols, 44, of Lithopolis, was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup south on State Route 674 when he attempted to turn east into a driveway. Nichols' vehicle collided with a northbound 2014 Harley Davidson ridden by Johnny Hackney, 73, of Columbus.

Hackney was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Nichols reportedly did not sustain any injuries.

As of Aug. 16, the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. No further details were available regarding road closures or additional response agencies at the scene.
