Man critically injured in Rockford traffic crash; driver arrested

ROCKFORD, Ill. — A traffic accident on Sunday night left a 36-year-old man in critical condition.

According to Rockford Police, officers responded to reports of a collision at the intersection of 7th Street and 12th Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the man lying in the street. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Damarius Bullock of Rockford, remained at the scene. An investigation revealed a handgun, ammunition, and cannabis in Bullock’s vehicle. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Winnebago County Jail.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Bullock with aggravated illegal use of a weapon, possession of a weapon and ammunition without Firearm Owner’s Identification Cards (FOIDs), aggravated assault, and possession of cannabis. Bullock appeared in court on Monday, Sept. 29, at 1:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
