VERMILION LAKE TOWNSHIP — A two-vehicle crash near Pike Bay of Lake Vermilion on Friday has left one person with life-threatening injuries and three others injured.
The incident occurred at 1:44 p.m. when a Ford Escape traveling north on U.S. Highway 169 collided with a Lincoln Aviator that was stationary, preparing to turn onto Pike Bay Drive. Authorities reported that road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.
Elaine Karen Tibbetts, 77, of Tower, was driving the Ford Escape, with 91-year-old Gary Wayne Donald, also from Tower, as the sole passenger. Both were transported to a hospital in Virginia; Donald’s injuries are considered life-threatening, while Tibbetts’ injuries are non-life-threatening. The Lincoln Aviator was driven by 64-year-old Michael Steven Rosenberg of Eagan, with 57-year-old Sagit Vlodaver Rosenberg, also of Eagan, as the only passenger. They were taken to a hospital in Cook, both with non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency assistance was provided by the Minnesota State Patrol, Tower Fire Department, Tower Ambulance, Virginia Fire Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
