JEFFERSON CITY, MO — One person was injured in a traffic crash on Highway 50 during the morning commute on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at 6:17 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 50 and Route 179. According to the Jefferson City Police Department (JCPD), a 56-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Honda CR-V westbound in the passing lane when a deer ran onto the roadway, striking the rear door on the driver’s side.
Following the initial impact, the deer collided with a 1999 Ford Escort, which was being driven by a 63-year-old Jefferson City woman. This caused the Ford to veer off the left side of the road, cross the median, and enter the eastbound lanes, where it ultimately stopped after hitting an embankment.
A third vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 57-year-old woman from Freeburg, ran over the deer in the passing lane.
Highway 50 was reduced to one lane in both directions for approximately 30 minutes while emergency crews managed the scene. The driver of the Ford Escort was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no fatalities were reported.
