NOVI, Mich. (WKRC) – A man involved in a car crash allegedly stole an ambulance with a patient on board, crashed it, and fled as it ignited.
Authorities said the incident occurred while paramedics were treating victims of a collision. The suspect, one of the crash participants, accessed the driver’s seat of the ambulance and fled with a paramedic and a patient still inside.
Following a pursuit that lasted several miles, the ambulance struck another vehicle. As the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot, the ambulance caught fire.
Police apprehended the driver shortly after the crash. All three individuals in the ambulance, including the driver, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.
The ambulance was subsequently declared a total loss by officials. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
