ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Two individuals were injured Sunday night when their utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crashed over a cliff, prompting a rescue aided by iPhone crash detection technology.
According to the Haldeman Fire/Rescue, an iPhone crash detection alert was triggered, notifying roughly 1,400 units and launching a multi-agency response. Emergency crews located the UTV in a remote area, where the accident occurred.
Responding agencies included the Morehead Fire Department, Rowan County EMS, Rowan County Sheriff's Office, and AirEvac 118, all providing support for the rescue operation. Both injured individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment; the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Emergency officials credited the iPhone's automatic crash detection feature with enabling a swift response. Authorities emphasized the importance of keeping crash detection features enabled for safety while riding ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, or vehicles.
