Injuries Reported in Stolen Ambulance Crash in Slidell

SLIDELL, LA — A suspect was taken into custody after driving a stolen ambulance through a red light and colliding with another vehicle Thursday night at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to Slidell police.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Gause Boulevard and Pearl Acres while local law enforcement assisted Louisiana State Police and the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office in attempting to stop the stolen vehicle. The ambulance had been reported stolen earlier in New Orleans around 9:15 p.m. from the 5900 block of Read Boulevard.

According to authorities, spike strips were deployed in an effort to slow the ambulance before the incident. The driver failed to stop at a light, resulting in the collision with another vehicle.

The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
