Injuries Reported in Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Stolen Truck

Driver of Stolen Vehicle Arrested After Multiple-Car Crash on I-95

A 34-year-old man was arrested Friday night after allegedly eluding police in a stolen vehicle, resulting in a crash involving three cars on I-95 in Augusta.

Karl McDougal-Orosco of Pittsfield was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra northbound when a Maine State Police detective observed him driving erratically. After activating lights and sirens, the driver failed to stop, authorities said.

At approximately mile marker 119, the Tundra collided with another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction crash that involved a 2024 Toyota RAV4 and a 2013 Buick Enclave. Following the crash, McDougal-Orosco fled on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

It was confirmed that the Tundra had been reported stolen in Augusta. McDougal-Orosco faces multiple charges, including eluding an officer, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was taken to Kennebec County Jail.

Injuries were reported for a passenger in the RAV4 and the driver of the Buick, both of whom were transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The pileup caused significant traffic delays. No additional crashes were reported in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
