Injuries Reported After Crash Involving Police Chase in Monona

Monona Police Chief Discusses Chase Resulting in Injury to Officer and K-9

MONONA, Wis. (WKOW) — Christopher Brugger Jr. faces multiple charges after a reckless driving incident and subsequent police chase on [date].

Authorities confirmed that Brugger has history with law enforcement in Monona, having previously led police on a chase. Monona Police Chief Brian Chaney reported that Brugger drove recklessly through a gas station parking lot, over a curb, and into a commercial property populated with bystanders.

Officers were initially called to respond to reports of reckless driving. Chief Chaney stated that one officer approached Brugger without activating lights or sirens to de-escalate tensions, but Brugger fled as the officer neared his vehicle.

The chase began when Brugger was driving a tow truck and concluded after he struck a Madison Police Department squad car. Officer Ryan Kimberley and K-9 Freddie were inside the vehicle during the collision.

“The officers attempted to stop the suspect to prevent potential harm,” Chaney said.

While the possibility of the tow truck being stolen remains unconfirmed, there is a connection to Brugger, according to authorities.

A spokesperson for the Dane County District Attorney’s Office indicated that Brugger is scheduled for a court appearance on October 9.
