Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run Injures Five in New Orleans
A man was arrested Friday in connection with a hit-and-run that injured five people in the Tulane/Gravier area on Wednesday afternoon.
Bryan Johnson, 27, allegedly fled the scene of the collision at South Claiborne and Tulane avenues around 1:40 p.m., according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). Initially reported as involving all juveniles, NOPD later clarified that four adults, ages 20 to 40, and one toddler were injured.
The adults included a 40-year-old woman driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The other vehicle, a Kia Soul, had four occupants—a 40-year-old woman, a 25-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, and a 3-year-old girl. All were treated at a hospital and released, except the Corolla driver, who reported injuries but declined ambulance transport.
The crash occurred near the 24/7 Discount gas station, where the Kia struck a street sign, resulting in significant damage and deployed airbags.
Johnson was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on charges of four counts of negligent injuring, hit-and-run driving, flight from an officer, obstruction of justice, reckless operation of a vehicle, and aggravated criminal damage. He was treated for injuries sustained in the crash and also had an outstanding parole violation and court capias warrant. His bond status remains unclear.
Authorities are seeking information on the collision and encourage tips to hit-and-run detectives at 504-658-6205 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
