PETALUMA, CA — A motorist was injured in a head-on collision early Sunday morning after attempting to illegally pass another vehicle on Lakeville Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when the driver of a sedan collided with an oncoming car. Authorities reported that both vehicles sustained significant damage. Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene to provide aid to the injured motorist, who was transported to a local hospital.

No fatalities were reported, and the condition of the injured driver has not been disclosed. The CHP confirmed that the westbound lane of Lakeville Highway was temporarily closed for approximately two hours during the investigation and cleanup process.

Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident. “Excessive speed and improper passing maneuvers were factors in the crash,” said a CHP spokesperson. Towing services were dispatched to remove the vehicles from the roadway.
