Georgetown Fire Police Officer Critically Injured in Collision
A Georgetown fire police officer, 78, suffered critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic near Lewes-Georgetown Highway and Shingle Point Road on Nov. 3 around 8:35 p.m.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was providing traffic control at the scene of a previous accident, with emergency blue lights activated and wearing high-visibility gear, including a reflective vest and hat. Authorities said a 20-year-old man from Georgetown, driving a Honda Accord eastbound, collided with the officer.
The officer was transported via helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the driver of the Honda was unharmed.
