Fenton Woman Killed in Wixon Crash on Interstate 96 near South Hill Rd

Wixon, MI. – A 57-year-old Fenton woman died in a collision that left five other people injured on Wednesday morning in Lyon Township, Oakland County.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened on westbound Interstate 96, east of the South Hill Road overpass, at around 3:09 a.m.

A 2016 Ford Explorer rear-ended a 2025 Chevrolet Trax that was stopped in the second lane of the freeway with its hazard lights on.

The impact of the collision caused the Explorer to turn east in the westbound lane and was hit head-on by a 2018 Jeep Compass. The Explorer caught fire after the collision.

A Fenton woman in the rear passenger seat of the Explorer died at the scene.

The woman’s 82-year-old husband – another backseat passenger – was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Explorer and his front-seat passenger, his 51-year-old wife, were also taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The 75-year-old female driver of the Jeep was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Trax, a 30-year-old Ypsilanti man, was taken to a hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
