Northport Police Investigate Fatal July 16 Crash on U.S. Highway 43

NORTHPORT, AL – A July 16 traffic accident on U.S. Highway 43 resulted in the death of a USPS employee and injured three others.

The wreck occurred around 12:39 p.m. involving four vehicles just south of Highway 171, according to authorities. First responders from the Northport Police Department, Fire and Rescue, and NorthStar Ambulance arrived at the scene, where one person was pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as Vonchelle Renee Gamble, 36, of Tuscaloosa.

Three additional individuals sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment on site, authorities confirmed.

The U.S. Postal Service verified Gamble was on duty at the time of the incident, as reported by WBRC Fox 6 News. The Northport Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the cause of the accident.

Due to the incident, both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 43 were temporarily closed. The Northport Police advised the public to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. All lanes reopened by 7 p.m. the same day.
