LICKING COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX) — A two-vehicle crash on State Route 661 Tuesday evening resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred at approximately 6:56 p.m., just north of Granville. William Coss, 46, and Ashley Schorr, 37, both from Newark, were driving northbound in a Honda Civic when their vehicle veered off the right side of the road, then crossed the center line. The Civic collided with a southbound Jeep Wrangler driven by Maryann Harvey, 55, also of Newark.
In an effort to evade the Civic, Harvey swerved and struck the rear of Coss’s vehicle. This caused the Civic to overturn and eject both occupants. Harvey’s Jeep then exited the east side of the roadway, impacting a mailbox.
Harvey was treated at the scene by Burlington Township EMS and later released with minor injuries. Schorr was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries and subsequently transferred to Grant Medical Center. Coss sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken by the Licking County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Licking County Sheriff’s Office, Burlington Township Fire Department, Johnstown Fire and EMS, and the Licking County Coroner. The crash remains under investigation.
