Fatal crash on Route 1 claims life of Spruce Head man.

NORTHPORT, Maine — A Spruce Head man died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash on Route 1 early Wednesday morning.

Cody Arsenault, 31, was transported to a hospital by ambulance and helicopter but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, according to Lt. Cody Laite of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. when Arsenault attempted to pass a vehicle that had slowed to make a right turn. His 2006 Subaru Outback, traveling south, collided head-on with a 2024 Freightliner truck with an enclosed semi-trailer heading north. Authorities reported that Arsenault was ejected from his vehicle.

Route 1 near the Northport-Belfast border was closed for several hours following the incident. The driver of the truck, Alejandro Sicaju, 51, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, sustained minor injuries. The truck was owned by Andersen Windows & Doors.

An online fundraiser for Arsenault’s family has raised more than $15,000 as of Friday morning.
