LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — A 61-year-old Ohio man died and several others sustained injuries following a two-vehicle crash on M-22 Wednesday morning.
According to the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred at approximately 11:22 a.m. on South West-Bay Shore Drive near Walters Drive. A 71-year-old Traverse City man, driving a pickup truck, reportedly crossed the center line and struck an SUV occupied by the deceased and three passengers.
Emergency responders closed a section of M-22 for roughly seven hours to facilitate the investigation and ensure safety. The three passengers in the SUV, along with the pickup truck driver, were transported to Munson Hospital for treatment.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that the incident is under investigation, with alcohol believed to be a contributing factor.
