Fatal crash on icy Florissant road claims one life.

One person died in a four-vehicle crash on icy U.S. 24 in Florissant early Monday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The collision occurred at 5:44 a.m. when a westbound Dodge Ram lost control and crossed into eastbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Hyundai Elantra, authorities said.

Following the initial impact, an eastbound Jeep Gladiator slid and struck the rear of the Hyundai, while a Ford F250 traveling eastbound subsequently collided with the Jeep, forcing it off the roadway and into the Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai was airlifted to the hospital but was pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge Ram was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

U.S. 24 was closed for approximately three hours following the incident, as authorities conducted their investigation.
