WARREN, Maine — A two-car crash on Sunday, Oct. 19, resulted in one fatality and two injuries at approximately 1 p.m. at the intersection of Old Augusta Road and Ridge Road (Route 235).
According to Knox County Sheriff Patrick Polky, a 2012 Jeep Compass was traveling west on Old Augusta Road when it collided with a 2010 Acura MDX heading north on Ridge Road. Preliminary reports indicate a witness claimed the Jeep failed to stop, but no supporting evidence has been found. The investigation is ongoing and reconstruction teams have yet to draw conclusions pending further data collection.
The crash resulted in the death of a passenger in the Jeep. The driver was transported by ambulance to Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro and subsequently airlifted to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The Acura’s driver was taken to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Emergency responders used extrication equipment to remove the occupants from the Jeep, which came to rest in nearby woods.
Authorities noted that this intersection has a history of accidents, with the Maine Department of Transportation reporting 10 crashes and 13 injuries there from 2021 to 2023.
