Aurora Man Arrested on Suspicion of Vehicular Homicide After Fatal Crash

A 25-year-old man was arrested Thursday in Aurora after running a red light and crashing into another vehicle, resulting in the driver's death.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on East Iliff Avenue, following a police officer's observation of a white BMW sedan at 84 mph on Interstate 225 in a 65-mph zone. The BMW driver, identified as Don Mai Phan of Aurora, exited the highway and continued east on Iliff Avenue before running the red light at South Blackhawk Street, colliding with a Honda sedan turning left from Blackhawk onto Iliff.

The Honda driver, also 25 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.

Phan and a passenger were treated for minor injuries and taken into custody. Debris from the crash impacted two other vehicles at the intersection, but no additional injuries were reported.

Phan faces charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular eluding, reckless driving, and . He is currently held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday.

Authorities are continuing the investigation into the incident.
