FIRESTONE, Colo. — A fatal crash closed the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Weld County Road 19 on Monday afternoon.
The Firestone Police Department announced the incident via social media at 4:30 p.m., advising drivers to avoid the area as authorities conducted their investigation.
Firestone Boulevard was closed between County Roads 17 and 21, while Weld County Road 19 was closed between County Roads 22 and 26. Roads reopened around 7:15 p.m.
No further details were immediately available regarding the crash or any injuries.
According to Denver7, residents expressed concerns in 2018 about the safety of the intersection, requesting four-way stop signs or traffic lights. An engineering study at that time found that crash data did not meet the minimum criteria for such installations.
