Fiery Crash Shuts Down I-70 in Summit County
SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — A fatal semi-truck crash closed westbound Interstate 70 in Summit County Sunday at approximately 5:42 a.m.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, a semi-truck with a trailer veered off the right side of the roadway at milepost 208, collided with an embankment, and subsequently caught fire. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
All occupants of the semi were pronounced dead at the scene; however, the exact number of fatalities remains unconfirmed due to extensive damage to the vehicle.
Authorities reported that westbound I-70 will be closed indefinitely as the investigation continues. Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to check for updates at Cotrip.org.
