KETCHIKAN, Alaska (WISH) — A fatal accident on Thursday morning claimed the life of a 57-year-old woman from Auburn, Indiana, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred around 8:40 a.m. in a parking lot near Ketchikan Creek. Emergency responders from the KETCHIKAN POLICE and FIRE DEPARTMENTS, along with multiple agencies, arrived at the scene to find a vehicle that had driven out of a parking spot and struck a pedestrian before crashing through a fence and entering the creek.
Medical personnel transported the two occupants of the vehicle to a local hospital in critical condition, where the Indiana woman was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities reported two additional individuals sustained minor injuries, including a bystander who attempted to assist during the rescue. Two other civilians also entered the creek but were evaluated at the scene and released.
The recovery of the vehicle from the creek took approximately five hours, during which several parking spaces were closed for investigation.
Authorities did not disclose the cause of the accident or the identities of the victims, nor did they confirm whether the deceased was a driver or a passenger.
