Fairmount Man Killed in Grain Truck Crash Near Allerton

FAIRMOUNT, IL — A 66-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a grain truck and a Chevy Suburban near Allerton Tuesday evening, according to Illinois State Police.

Jay Hageman was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which occurred around 4:50 p.m. on County Road 250 East. Authorities said Hageman was operating a truck tractor and grain hauler southbound when he failed to stop at a stop sign at County Road 300 North, striking the eastbound Suburban.

Both vehicles subsequently left the roadway and entered a ditch. The driver of the Suburban, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Hageman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Illinois State Police are investigating the accident, and further details will be released as they become available.
