DUI Driver Injured in Crash, Faces Third Offense Charges

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A London man, 47-year-old Brandon Michael Thompson, faces charges for after crashing his vehicle early Monday morning.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a complaint on Rough Creek Road at approximately 5:30 a.m. A resident reported a man knocking on their door, claiming he had been in an accident and was bleeding from his head. He requested medical assistance but stated he did not want law enforcement involved.

When deputies arrived, they observed Thompson exhibiting slurred speech and lethargy. An investigation revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Deputies initially struggled to locate Thompson's vehicle but later discovered it in a ditch near the residence where he sought help. The car displayed significant front-end damage and was nearly on its side.

Thompson was transported to a local facility for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Following his release from the hospital, he was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence—third offense—by authorities. He is currently detained at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
