DUI Incident Leads to Dismissal of DOJ Employee
A Department of Justice employee was fired following a DUI incident near Middletown on Sept. 9, which resulted in three vehicles being damaged.
According to Attorney General Kathleen Jennings, Andrew Naylor, 45, of Wilmington, was employed in the DOJ's Civil Division but is no longer with the department. Authorities reported that Naylor was driving erratically in the parking lot of St. Georges Technical High School around 3 p.m. when he struck another vehicle.
Police observed Naylor's Tesla moving in the wrong direction before crashing into parked cars. A Student Resource Officer (SRO) discovered the disabled Tesla with Naylor inside, detecting the odor of alcohol. Several bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle.
During the incident, the school was in session, and Naylor collided with a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 55-year-old woman from Delaware City, a Chevrolet Trax operated by a 42-year-old Middletown man, and a Honda Civic driven by a 45-year-old man from Townsend. The 42-year-old sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, while the 55-year-old received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The 45-year-old declined medical attention. No students or staff were injured, and school operations continued as normal.
Naylor was charged with felony first-degree vehicular assault, second-degree vehicular assault, and driving under the influence of alcohol following a blood test. He was arraigned and released on a $1,100 unsecured bond. Prosecutors from an unrelated division will handle the case.
