Woman Charged After Fatal Drunk Driving Crash in Southern Indiana

HANOVER, Ind. — Dorothy Snell, 25, faces eight charges following a drunk driving crash that resulted in the death of her 6-year-old daughter on May 13 in Scott County.

The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 256 and U.S. Highway 31 when Snell allegedly disregarded a red light, colliding with another vehicle. Her daughter was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities reported that Snell was driving over the speed limit and had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .209, more than twice the legal limit. Additionally, her daughter was improperly restrained in the vehicle, only using a standard seatbelt.

According to court documents, Snell faces multiple charges including Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 felony), Causing Death While Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 or More (Level 4 felony), and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OVI) with a Passenger Under 18 (Level 6 felony), among others.

Snell was arrested on Wednesday and taken to Scott County Jail. Other passengers in the vehicle, including a 2-year-old, and individuals in the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are anticipated as authorities continue to gather information.
