Houma Police Arrest FedEx Driver After Truck Crashes into Home

HOUMA, La. — A FedEx delivery truck crashed into a home on Mary Hughes Circle around 4:15 PM CDT on Tuesday, resulting in no injuries to the homeowners who were inside at the time, according to Houma Police.

Authorities reported that the driver, identified as Michael Smith, 31, failed a field sobriety test after officers found him with an open alcoholic beverage, marijuana, and tramadol in the truck. Witnesses described hearing a loud bang before seeing the delivery truck embedded in the front of the house.

Smith allegedly refused to cooperate during his arrest and declined to provide a breath sample at the police station. A blood sample was taken at a local hospital for testing.

He faces multiple charges, including possession of marijuana and alcohol in a motor vehicle, possession of a Schedule IV narcotic, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated (DWI), and resisting an officer.

The crash left visible damage to the residence, which had recently undergone renovations after Hurricane Ida. The Houma Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
