Driver Charged in Fatal Eugene Rollover Crash
EUGENE, Ore. (June 6, 2025) — A 51-year-old driver faces manslaughter and DUII charges following a rollover crash that killed 79-year-old Sharon Schuman on Amazon Parkway on April 23.
Scott Stolarczyk, driving a 2016 Toyota Rav4 northbound, allegedly left the roadway and struck Schuman, who was jogging at the time. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after the incident.
According to court documents, Stolarczyk told officers he experienced a coughing fit that caused him to lose consciousness while driving. He regained awareness after the vehicle had come to a stop in a wooded area and had no recollection of the crash. His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit in Oregon.
Schuman was a notable figure in the Eugene community, recognized as an academic and musician, and taught literature at the University of Oregon.
Stolarczyk, charged with second-degree manslaughter, classified as a Class B Felony, and DUII, a Class A misdemeanor, posted bail and was released from Lane County Jail after his arraignment. A pre-trial conference is set for July 10.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
