ROCKFORD (WREX) — A car crash on Wesleyan Ave. early Sunday morning left one man dead.
The incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. in the 3300 block, north of Harrison Ave. Rockford Police responded to a single-vehicle accident where the driver, identified as 44-year-old Reggie Klaas of Roscoe, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, witnesses reported seeing a car speeding west on Wesleyan Ave. before it crossed into oncoming traffic, left the roadway, and struck a tree. An autopsy later confirmed that Klaas died from blunt chest trauma.
The Rockford Police Department and the Winnebago County Coroner's Office are currently investigating the crash. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
